Father’s Day Gift Ideas for Bird Lovers

Man_with_binoculars
Is your father always carrying a bird guide or stopping mid-conversation when a bird chirps? He’s a birder.

Birders aren’t always the easiest people to get presents for. For example, most will scoff if you get them a novelty bird necktie or a bulky birding vest.

So with Father’s Day just around the corner, we have some good gift ideas for those bird-loving dads out there.

New Bird Guide

If your dad’s a birder, chances are he already has a bird guide (or a dozen depending on how long he’s been around). This is where you have to know your dad. There are actually a number of new bird guides that just came out within the last year or so, like the second edition of the Sibley Bird Guide.

Alternatively, you can simplify your dad’s life by getting him a digital bird guide on his phone (if he has a smartphone, of course). It may take you to actually teach him how to use it, but it’s hard to go back to physical field guides when you can have one on your phone.

Here’s a good look at the best apps for birders, though the list should include a few recent additions like the Merlin App.

Bird Feeder

One of the best ways to enjoy birds is to invite them into your backyard, so why not let your dad indulge in backyard birds?

It’s possible he already has a bird feeder, but there are tons of different feeders and designs that attract various species. So if he has a regular seed feeder, think about a suet feeder. If he has a thistle feeder, get him a hummingbird feeder.

With all the various designs and feeder or birdhouse types, the possibilities for a new backyard bird item are endless. As a bonus, you could also promise to refill the feeder or clean it regularly. Nikon ProStaff Waterproof

New Binoculars

Over the years, binoculars have only gotten better and better. If your dad has old birding binoculars, it may be time for an upgrade. Being able to clearly and comfortably see a bird up close can be downright thrilling.

You can find a host of different types of binoculars at various sizes. There are waterproof binocularscompact binoculars and plenty more.

Bird Kitsch

This one really depends on the type of dad you have, but sometimes a dad just really loves bird decorations. You can browse through the bird decor we have in our store, but some of our favorites include the bird silhouettes from Elegant Designs and the Windsor Nature bird posters.
