Watch a Heroic Bear Save a Crow from Drowning

With the constant barrage of depressing stories of war and disaster all over the news, it’s always refreshing to take a step back and watch two unlikely foes get along.

A Black-hooded Crow recently fell into the water moat in the bear enclosure at the Budapest Zoo in Hungary. Instead of letting the suffering bird drown, the bear rescues the bird with its mouth and tosses it on dry land.

At this point, the bear could easily chow down on the bird (since bears have been known to eat birds), but the bear walks away and eats its apple.

The zoo keeper said it’s likely the bear was just curious about the distressed bird, but it’s always heartening to see such acts of kindness, even if they are just incidental.
